special hoopstalk show
aloha everybody. Hard to believe we are in August already. I hadn't planned on starting up the blog again until late September, but so much has been going on with the basketball program the past few months, Jackson and I will be broadcasting a special edition of Hoopstalk on ESPN 1420 next tuesday night, aug 9th, at 6 pm. And our special IN STUDIO guest will be Jamie Dixon, head coach of the Univ of Pittsburgh Panthers, to talk about what you can expect nationally in 2011-2012.
As you all know, the team will be on its way to China and Japan in a few days. Its a limited edition, with Vander not making the trip because of other basketball commitments which could keep him off the team this season ( what a blow that would be); several signees not qualifying academically ( still waiting on Biggs and Blakes); an issue with Brumfield; and injuries ( Wiseman). Still it should be a good trip and it allows the guys to get in extra practice and " bonding time).
Its hard to believe, but still no contract for Gib. Will he get one before he leaves. We will see. Will it be for 5 years or less? at what compensation level? etc? No matter what, there is no good reason why this has taken so long.
I need to clear up something many of you have asked me about on the street. As has been publicly reported, the University hired my law firm to conduct an investigation into something having to do with the basketball program. I can tell you that is all I know as well. I have asked the folks here at the firm not to give me any information about their work, and i was not involved in the University's decision to hire the firm. So for those few of you who see some ": conspiracy" going on, I am sorry to disappoint you. You know about as much as i do.
By the way, during our last Hoopstalk radio show and in some of my final blogs, we talked about some of the recruits and issues they might have getting into school and issues they had in J.C., etc. Some of listeners and readers took offense, saying we were not " team players". Well, most of what we discussed and wrote about happened to come to pass. I am not happy about it, but this blog and the radio show will continue to provide you with the facts as we know them and our opinions. They may not always be to your liking and i welcome your comments and opinions no matter if you agree or disagree.
Well, there maybe a few more blogs between now and late September when Hoopstalk returns both to the airways and the paper. Oct 15th will be here before you know it
