tonight with gib

September 29th, 2011

big news in today's paper about the status of Gib's proposed contract. Hopefully we will all learn more about it tonight when Gib is our in studio guest on the first Hoopstalk radio show of the new season. That's tonight at 6 pm on ESPN 1420. We will also discuss the scheduling difficulties faced by the program this year, as well as reviewing all of the recruiting history since last April. There has been much speculation in the press and in the blogs about the failure of 4 recruits to get into school and why and how that occurred, and I am sure Gib will talk about his recruiting philosophy tonight.

I also expect news on a possible replacement for the vacant assistant position and we will look at the rest of the WAC. Early preseason magazines have UH in the top half of the league.

Jackson and I are already setting up interviews with Mainland coaches for upcoming shows. I must say it looks like the Tarheels are the number 1 team going into the season. In the WAC, look for Nevada to picked preseason number 1 with Utah State and New Mexico State right behind.

Its Time For Hoopstalk

September 27th, 2011

As threatened in July, Hoopstalk is back for another season here at the StarAdvertiser and on ESPN 1420. Our first show will be this Thursday at 6pm and our very special in studio guest will be Head Coach Gib Arnold. Join Jackson Wheeler and me  as we catch up with the UH Basketball summer trip, recruiting, scheduling, and the early season prospects for the basketball bows coming off a 19 win season.

The blog will appear several times a week  before the season starts in November, and then more often as the season swings into gear. You can expect the blog to present my thoughts and opinions, even those you may disagree with, and to encourage all of you to weigh in with your comments.

This is not an official UH site, and if you were a reader last year, you know i tell it as i see it, even when a know some you will disagree.  Hopefully much of what we talk about here will be positive, but dont be shocked if an occasional criticism slips in.

The weekly show and the blog will discuss not only UH basketball, but National College Basketball as well. Like last year, we will have many Mainland coaches as guests, and hope to have Gib on the show every week, if possible.

With a credit to Vince Scully ( the best sports announcer in history in my opinion), " its time for UH Basketball".
